"Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more; it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

William Shakespeare

I hate that Franz Zappa is dead. I hate that Kurt Cobain is dead. I hate that Spalding Gray is dead. I hate that Elliot Smith is dead.

Ironically, the only time that life appears meaningless is when you look at life from a cosmic, god's-eye perspective. When you are actively involved in doing something that you enjoy doing, life feels quite meaningful.
Pretending that there is a god in order to fill this hole is an act of self-deception. If you want to understand where we came from, study evolution. If you want to know why we do things, study psychology. Life is complicated, and there are no easy solutions.
